The Division of Physical Science and Engineering at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) invites applications for PhD and post-doctoral positions in theoretical spintronics. The research areas include:
  • Spin-related phenomena in nanoscale devices (metals, semiconductor and organic devices)

  • Magnetic noise and ultrafast magnetization dynamics (Spin torque, damping, spin pumping)

  • Energy conversion between spin and charge currents (Spin Hall effects, Anomalous Hall effect)

The successful candidate will pursue numerical and analytical research on the above-mentioned topics. The applicant’s creativity will be highly appreciated and strong interactions with theoretical and experimental groups in the Division and abroad are expected. Outstanding academic and research backgrounds as well as good communication skills are required.

Requests for PhD applications:
MSc degree in Physics or Materials Science. Prior experience in theory is appreciated. Self-motivated, and capable of
quickly developing new skills, the application will have a demonstrable aptitude for learning fast and involving him/herself in
new theoretical techniques.

Requests for Post-doctoral applications:
PhD in Physics or Materials Science, with a deep experience in electronic transport and/or computational methods. Highly
motivated, the applicant will be independent and capable of formulating, planning and carrying out a program of innovative
and original research.

Applicants should submit the following information;

  • a letter of interest,

  • a detailed curriculum vitae,

  • a list of publications

  • three references.

The letter of interest will explicitly address the qualifications for this position. For the post-doctoral applications, it will briefly present innovative research projects the candidate wish to develop during his stay in KAUST. The applications should be submitted by e-mail to Dr Aurelien Manchon – email: aurelien.manchon@kaust.edu.sa
Applications are accepted until the position is filled. For further further information about the University, please visit the
